The junction of Richmond Road with Mayo Road was also the site of a greengrocers at no. 31A run by Miss A Willard in 1889 (Pike’s Directory) and then in 1891 (Pages Directory) the site of the Victoria Inn run by the same lady. The public house designed by architects Catt / Denman in 1887, briefly became the New Vic in the 1990s up until its closure in 2008.

The Victoria belonged to Tamplin’s Brewery which was bought by Watneys in 1953, and they closed the brewery in 1973. The brewery was between Albion Street and Southover Street, and was replaced by 95 Housing Association homes in 1997.
